Mailcleaner · The checks

Email verification checks: syntax, MX, SMTP and more.

Each address runs through a sequence of checks, from a free syntax test to a live question to the mail server, and the first one that gives a definite answer sets the verdict. A confidence score is built from every signal along the way.

01 / 04

Why does one check not prove an address is real?

02

MX passes dead mailboxes

A domain can receive mail while the particular person left years ago.

03

Some servers say yes to everything

Catch-all domains accept any address, so a naive check calls them all valid.

02 / 04

Which checks does Flaxxa Mailcleaner run, and in what order?

01

Syntax and typos

The format check runs first, with a look-alike check for big providers (gmial.com, outloook.com).

02

Suppressions, disposable and role

Addresses on your suppression list stop here; known throwaway domains and shared addresses such as info@ are flagged.

03

Mail servers and mailbox

An MX lookup finds the mail server, then an SMTP check asks whether the mailbox exists, and a test address reveals catch-all domains.

04

Deeper signals and score

Deep checks add spam-trap patterns and a domain blocklist lookup; every signal feeds the confidence score.

03 / 04

What does each check catch?

Syntax

Malformed addresses come back invalid with the reason syntax_error.

Typo detection

Look-alikes of major providers, with the corrected address suggested or fixed for you.

Disposable

Known throwaway domains, from a list refreshed weekly from public sources.

Role

Shared addresses such as info@, sales@, support@ and noreply@.

MX lookup

No mail server means the address is invalid (mx_missing).

SMTP check

Accepted, rejected or full mailbox, from the server's own answer.

Catch-all

A test address that can't exist shows whether the domain accepts everything.

Microsoft and Yahoo probes

Extra existence checks for these providers where enabled.

04 / 04

What do you gain from layered checks?

Better answers, and honest ones.

Fewer false passes

Each layer catches what the others miss.

No blind guesses

Catch-all and unreachable servers are labelled as such.

Cheap where it can be

Obvious problems stop before the slower checks run.

FAQ

The checks: common questions

Frequently asked questions

Yes, on Standard checks and above. It connects to the domain's mail server from Flaxxa's servers, names the recipient, and disconnects before any message is sent. Some providers block these checks or accept every address; those results are marked risky or catch-all rather than valid.
