What do you need to record your screen and camera?

A computer with a webcam and a microphone (built-in ones are fine), a modern browser such as Chrome, and a screen recorder. Browser-based recorders need nothing installed; a Chrome extension can record at higher quality and start from any tab.

How do you make a screen recording look and sound good?

Small changes make a big difference.

  • Close tabs and notifications you don't want on screen.
  • Record a tab or a window rather than your whole screen, so viewers see only what matters.
  • Use a headset or sit close to the microphone, in a quiet room.
  • Zoom the page so small text stays readable, or record at a higher resolution.
  • Plan the three points you want to make, and keep it short.

04 / 05

What resolution should you record your screen at?

1080p is enough for most screen recordings. Choose 4K when viewers need to read small text, code or spreadsheets on a large screen, and 60 frames a second when you scroll a lot or show motion.

The Flaxxa Videos Chrome extension records at 1080p with a high bitrate by default, and up to 4K at 60 frames a second. Recording on the website uses the browser's own quality settings.

05 / 05

How do you share a screen recording?

Send the watch page link, or copy the embed code to put the video on your website, help centre or course. In Flaxxa Videos you can also add chapters, captions and a call to action before you share, and see who watched afterwards.
